Bee-Safe
San Juan County

Do you like apples, avocado, pears, cherries, peppers, chocolate, mango, watermelon, coffee???

One third of the food crops eaten by humans every day depend on bees to pollinate them. Unbeknown to most of us, many "bee friendly" garden plants sold at home garden centers have been pre-treated with bee killing pesticides!

We are a group of concerned citizens who want a future of healthy and diverse food sources for our children and grandchildren. We believe that bees are essential for the sustaining of our islands' agriculture and personal gardens and orchards. We are farmers, parents, foodies, gardeners, grandparents, realtors, scientists, and lovers of the earth. We simply want your help to keep bees healthy. These pesticides, known as neonicotinoids (neonics), are Systemics, because they work system-wide, entering the seeds, roots, trunk, branches, stems, leaves, flowers, pollen, necter, etc., essentially making the plan poisonous to bees.

Yet another class of pesticide, pyrethroids, are also killing bees and other pollinators, not to mention seriously damaging our sea life, our pets and our own health.

It is up to us to keep San Juan County Bee-Safe!
